Northumberland: Dukes Hagg Wood

Based on the outskirts of Prudhoe, this 33 acre Ancient Woodland is a wonderful hub of community activity. Just off Moor Road, about a mile away from Ferndene Hospital.

About this Location

Dukes Hagg wood could be considered our main ‘hub’. It is home to the majority of our Alternative Provision and where our staff training happens.

The woodland was purchased in 2019 with the intention of supporting Stomping Grounds’ mission and is now being actively managed by the Dukes Hagg Wood collective. It is a multi use space, where we balance the needs of bio-diversity with the needs of the local and regional community.

This woodland used to belong to Prudhoe Hospital, and in the 1960s was home to many people with learning difficulties and those struggling with mental ill health.

Fast forward to the 21st Century and we are proud to now be using this magical space to provide enabling and neuro-affirming provision for young people, supporting those with additional needs and mental health needs to take ownership of their future.
